Individuals

Optimal Life Service Image

Heather Kempton specializes in working with people like you to discover their authentic self and to develop a deeper sense of self-acceptance and love.

Within her private practice, Heather has found that many individuals fall into the trap of unhealthy behavioural patterns resulting from feeling “not good enough” and possessing a negative mindset. Increasing one’s self-awareness and challenging one’s perception is key to promoting growth and changing unhealthy behavioural patterns....

Heather works with individuals to establish healthy boundaries within personal relationships, challenge negative thinking patterns, identify values as well as, how to experience more joy and fulfilment. Heather also teaches one how to develop a strength based mindset which allows individuals to identify and overcome life’s obstacles.

We are all unique and will find that different approaches to growth and healing resonate differently within each of us. Finding a healing modality that works best for you is critical to experiencing growth and development. Individuals come from a variety of cultural, sexual and ethnic backgrounds, including teens to seniors, everyone shares the desire to find peace within themselves.

We all desire that our personal challenges are treated with the privacy and respect we deserve, experiencing being listened to in a non-judgemental way that echoes kindness and compassion.

Couples

Optimal Life Service Image

Heather provides a safe-space for couples to explore vulnerable and challenging topics, allowing each individual to share and discover behavioural patterns that are contributing to the breakdown of the relationship.

Being part of a couple is hard work and the success or failure of the relationship may hinge on how well you and your partner deal with topical issues; finances, sexuality, communication, conflict, parenting,....

in-laws, leisure time, family, spirituality, expectations of each other, and household chores and associated responsibilities. Effective communication between you and your partner, along with a willingness to grow closer together, even when the topic is difficult, is one of the keys to building a successful relationship. Couples Counselling at Optimal Life in Coquitlam provides a safe and controlled environment to learn effective ways on how to actively listen to your partner and respectfully communicate with each other.

During the first couples counselling session, Heather Kempton will meet with each individual separately for approximately 10-15 minutes. This allows Heather to identify personal goals, perceived problems, sense of responsibility/role played in the relationship and a brief history of mental health/addiction/abuse/infidelity. Heather will then meet with the couple for the remainder of the counselling session.

It is recommended for couples to attend a 90-minute session for the first counselling session in order to allow enough time for a comprehensive introduction to each of you individually as well as an introduction to Heather and all that can be accomplished. After the introductions and basics are covered the initial exploration of your relationship can begin. Depending on the initial progress made, and the core aspects that are discussed during the first session, discussions about any further requirements for ongoing couples counselling sessions can be reviewed.
